The Military Industrial Complex collects data, granted by the Department of Defense, on the numbers of private contractors and the amount of defense-related deals starting in 2007. A comparison between 2007 and 2008 shows a striking increase of 29.5 percent in the number of contracts and an increase of 36.8 percent in the total value of contracts in US dollars. The data also displays the fifteen main contractors since October 2006 with Lockheed Martin Corporation as the lead.2006
