Print
This damning UN report on Syrian security forces’ rights abuses found “patterns of summary execution, arbitrary arrest, enforced disappearance, torture, including sexual violence, as well as violations of children’s rights.” It was based on interviews with 223 victims and witnesses, although investigators were not granted access to the country. The report was published on the same day the Arab League leveled unprecedented economic sanctions against Syria because Damascus refused to accept observers to protect civilians. According to the UN, state forces have killed at least 256 children.
