The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) has released a report entitled ‘Land Grabs and Fragile Food Systems: The Role of Globalization’ which examines the effects of globalization on the food system. It argues that international trade and investment promotes financial and commercial interests over the human right to food. Climate change and the food price crisis of 2007-2008 have led food import-dependent countries to acquire increasing amounts of land abroad. The paper argues that land grabbing has escalated due to the deregulation of trade and foreign investment laws. It calls for policy changes that promote a more transparent and balanced international food system. To read the full report please click here.
