2000
Introduction
The year 2000 was Global Policy Forum's seventh full year of operation and the third in our new office space across the street from UN headquarters. During the year, we worked intensively to monitor global policy making at the United Nations and to promote a more just and democratic global policy process.
We held conferences in New York and Berlin, organized more than thirty NGO meetings with Security Council ambassadors, published several major policy papers and analytical essays, and continued to build our fast-growing web site. Our internship program flourished, we added a new full-time staff member, and our funding expanded.
Throughout the year, the public grew increasingly concerned about globalization and unaccountable global policy making. Global Policy Forum found an especially receptive audience for its work in this environment.
Our programs cover four principal areas: international peace and security, financing for the UN and global public priorities, policy making for economic and social justice, and NGOs in global governance and policy process. Democratization of global policy is our overarching mission.
Our work is based on a few basic principles and commitments. We use a holistic approach, linking peace and security with economic justice and development. We use advanced technology to leverage our resources and take advantage of the latest in computer and internet options for global communication. We put a heavy emphasis on networking with partner organizations and like-minded individuals to build broad coalitions for research, action and advocacy. We put our energy into well-focused and unique programs where GPF has a special analytical and organizational edge. And we substantially extend our resources by using the talents of many volunteers and interns.
