Sir - This week the UN General Assembly will again vote on the continuing American embargo of Cuba. This blockade is immoral because it still denies food and medicine to children.
The American Association of World Health has declared that it is causing the suffering and even deaths of Cuban children. The policy is a relic of the Cold War and has failed to weaken the determination of the Cuban people to protect their independence.
This time last year the embargo was condemned by 157 countries including Britain at the United Nations with only the United States and Israel voting against. We urge the British government to vote again against the blockade and to put pressure on the American government to end its embargo. We and more than 40 other Members of Parliament join with the 25,000 people here in Britain who have added their voices to this campaign. It is time to end the American blockade of Cuba.
