Libya has notified the Arab League about the details of the agreement concluded between Libya and the UN regarding the trial of the Lockerbie suspects. This was expressed during a meeting held on Sunday in Cairo between Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid and Libya's delegate at the AL, Salma Rashed.

In a press statement he made following the meeting, the AL chief said: "Mrs. Rashed told me about the recent developments in the Lockerbie case and some details about the trials of the suspected persons." The AL chief said the Libyan representative added that one of the guarantees Libya received is that if the suspected persons are found guilty, they would be detained in a prison affiliated to the UN in Scotland. A Libyan consulate would be set up to follow up this case.

The AL chief asked the Arab states to lift all sanctions imposed on Libya, as soon as the two Libyan suspects are handed over to the Netherlands.
