Presidential Assessments

Print

On June 12 1997 the Security Council agreed (S/1997/451) that each Presidency would produce a report that would be attached to the Annual Report of the Council to the GA. Below are links to reports produced to date. Some have been published on the missions' websites and others have been posted by GPF from printed documents. Unfortunately, these documents do not become official documents of the UN until they are issued as part of the Annual Report, often many months after they have been written.

The reports represent an important step towards greater transparency and accountability of the Council. Several missions have issued reports within one month. Missions that issue these reports within six weeks of the end of their presidency we consider to have been timely in responding to this obligation. Some missions apparently may refuse to issue any report. Another important step towards greater transparency is the publication of presidential press statements.
